What do you use for a spacer? I could see maybe cutting a ring out of some thick masonite or something

As I noted earlier, I don't recommend it, but historically a second Altec or similar gasket was used, so if a hard material is used, be sure and use some form of sealer between it and the baffle.

I read earlier in the thread that cone probably will never hit the baffle. I do agree that on the woofers I have in my A7's currently (421 reconed as a 416 mutt) there is 3/16" and they probably will not hit.

However, I have some 421's with original gaskets that probably would hit because the gasket is so compressed. There is less than an 1/8". Some of the music my kids make me play is pretty bass heavy. The woofers get a workout on that stuff:)

Yeah, a properly torqued 416, 515 has around a 5 mm/0.2" stand-off, which is a bit > their 10% distortion point, so if it's hitting the baffle..........
